Rain Barrels

In 2020, D.C. experienced 46.24 inches of rain throughout the entire year (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration 2020), and just one inch of rain fills a 50 gallon barrel (Superior Wastewater Division of Public Works 2005), meaning hundreds of thousands of gallons of runoff could have been avoided.

Be Aware

Almost 3 million people who visit Rock Creek Park every year. Both Stygobromus hayi and kenki live in shallow, leafy seeps, habitats that hikers tend to traipse through when going off trail, unaware of the damage such a simple action could be doing.
